Do you know someone who is always making excuses not to change their diet, even though they really should? An excuse I often here is “but I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and die. Why should I waste my life eating healthy food”. Well, maybe you should show them this post.
Chances of you dying in an accident compared to dying of a disease are pretty slim. According to an article in the Guardian, of the 491,348 people that died in 2009, 432,387 (that’s 88%) died of a disease. Therefore, 17,878 died of external accidents, 237 was infant deaths, 18,024 was mental and behavioural incidents and the rest died of other causes. Of them 432,387 people that died of a disease, 159,779 (that’s 32.5%) died of a circulatory disease.
Obviously statistics are not 100% accurate, but it gives you a pretty good idea what you are most likely to die of, a disease. It is not all doom and gloom, because there are a LOT of things you can do to prevent this from happening, or at least prevent it from happening as soon as it naturally would. A change in diet can lower your risk of circulatory diseases, the biggest killer. Getting 30 minutes of exercise (yes, that is more than walking to and from your car) at least 3 times a week can lower your risk or a heart attack and making some healthy food swaps can vastly improve your health.
So, stop making excuses, a heart attack is more likely to get you before a bus/car/plan/elephant will
Be sure to look both ways before you cross the road too, you don’t want to be one of those 17,878.
