Replace cauliflower for rice or pasta

If you have ever followed the Atkins Diet, then this little tip may be well known to you.

If you cook up some cauliflower (cut up and cooked in boiling water for 10-15 mins), mash it (add a little butter or cheese if you want), it makes a fantastic substitute for rice or pasta. When you are eating a bolognese or curry, you are not really even tasting the pasta or rice, you are tasting the full of flavour topping. So why not save yourself a couple of hundred calories, that you are not even enjoying the taste of anyway, and replace the rice or pasta with mashed up cauliflower. Oh, it also works great as a replacement to mashed potato. So top it with a healthy stew and gravy! I am not saying carbs are bad, not at all. I enjoy them very often. But, if you have already had a carb heavy day, and want to lay off them for dinner, then this is a great substitute.

You can then use those saved calories on something you really want to eat and can actually taste and enjoy every last calorie, like dessert.
