It is important to stay hydrated the whole hear round, but even more so in the summer. Drinking enough water can be a struggle for many due to either forgetting, or just finding it boring, so here are my top 5 ways to drink more water.
I think it is important to note that there is such a thing as too much water too. All over the internet you will find people telling you to drink a specific amount of water per day, but there is no one size fits all rule. It depends on the individual and how active they are. So, as always, listen to your body and remember that you know yourself better than anyone, so don’t force yourself to drink water just to reach a certain target set by someone else.

However, saying that, I think most of us agree that we don’t drink enough water. Although it is actually my favourite thing to drink, plain water isn’t the most exciting thing to drink, so it can be easy to forget and then we can confuse thirst for hunger and end up eating more. So, here are my 5 ways to drink more water.
1. Add fruit to your water.
My favourite way to liven up water is to add some fruit to it. You can infuse water with pretty much any fruit, but my favourite is just some lemon slices and a little grated ginger too. I start my day with a glass every morning and it helps with bloating too. Watermelon and mint is another favourite combo of mine.
2. Set Yourself An Alarm
I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me to drink enough water. It’s not telling me to drink more water, but just questioning if I feel like I am hydrated enough. I’m usually not, so I go and grab some more water.
3. Eat More Water.
Okay, that sounds a little weird, but I just mean eat more foods that have a high water content like cucumbers, melons and celery. Even soup is a good way to stay hydrated, but perhaps that one if more for the winter.
4. One Water For Every Alcoholic Drink.
If you are on a night out, try to have one glass of water for every alcoholic drink that you have. Not only will you save money and stay hydrated, but it will help to prevent a hangover the next morning too.
5. Have water with you at all times.
Keeping a water bottle with you at all times is an easy reminder to drink more water. I carry my BRITA Fill&Go with me everywhere because it filters the water making it taste so much better, which makes it more enjoyable to drink. It makes a handy gym bottle too. It saves you having to buy bottles of water when you are out, which is better for the environment too.
If you want some more ideas on how to incorporate filtered water in to your diet, take a look at the Better With BRITA page where there are lots of ideas and some delicious recipes (including my own) that use filtered water.
As a BRITA ambassador and supporting their Better With BRITA campaign, I am spreading the word the difference that drinking BRITA filtered water can have. With BRITA’s filtration technology, it reduces the limescale and impurities that can change the taste of your water, and therefore your meal if using it in recipes. If you are struggling to enjoy water, this may be one of the reasons.
