I am going sober for October. Are you going to join me?
It is no secret that I enjoy a cocktail and/or glass of wine and I have done throughout most of my weight loss, but I also like a challenge. I have given up drinking for weeks, months at a time before and it is always a good way to give myself a kick up the butt when I feel bad habits creeping back in.
Thing have been crazy busy recently, and I have not been spending enough time on looking after myself. A long day of working has usually resulted in a glass of wine or two to relax and then that can lead to some less than great food choices. So, this has lead me into taking part in Go Sober for October. There is going to be enough drinking in the 2 months after October in the run up to Christmas, so a bit of a break will be good for the mind, and the liver.
Another good great to take take is to raise money for a great cause. Go Sober For October was started by Macmillan to raise money for cancer support. The idea is that you sign up through the website to donate money to a good cause and you stay off the booze for a month. If you are taking part, you can donate to any charity, or you don’t have to donate at all, just do it for a challenge and to make yourself healthier.
I think the health benefits of not drinking are really important. Here is what I found on the Go Sober For October website:
Taking a month off the booze can have many potential benefits. By signing up to the challenge and making even small improvements to your diet and exercise routine participants could expect to experience a range of the following:
- Increased energy levels, higher productivity
- Clearer head
- No more hangovers
- Sleeping better / snoring less
- Weight loss
- Clearer skin
- Healthier bank balance / Save money
- Sense of achievement
- Fresh approach to alcohol consumption
- Generally feel healthier
- Doing something positive for a good cause
It sounds good to me. So – are you in? Leave a comment below to let me know.
