Whether you call them goals or resolutions, there are a lot of things that many of us wake up on January 1st wanting to change. Some people don’t believe in setting them, some people don’t think they work and some people love having a fresh beginning and succeed in sticking to their resolutions and some people give up after 2 weeks. Everyone is different.
One of the big things that people vow to do in a new year is to get healthy. I don’t care when you decide to do it, it is just a great decision. Ways that many people choose to improve their health is by cutting back (or giving up) on alcohol, giving up smoking and cooking at home more and ordering less takeaways.
If you are sitting there thinking about ditching your goals, then as if you didn’t need another incentive (your health should be a huge incentive), then think about all the money you could save by sticking to those goals/resolutions.
You don’t need to just think and wonder about it, as Thomas Cook have created an online app that shows you exactly how much you can save. You just type in how much wine you drink a week, or how many takeaways you get, or how much you smoke and it tells you how much you will save in 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. Obviously this price is going to be different depending on your area and where you shop, but you get the idea. It also shows you how much you would save by cutting back on chocolate, beer, spirits, coffee and crisps.
I know that when I gave up smoking, I said that all the money I saved would go towards a trip abroad – and it did. Well the great thing about this app is that once you have worked out how much you could save, it tells you what holidays you can get for that amount. I think that is an awesome incentive. If you see that after 2 years of giving up smoking and cutting back on wine and takeaway that you could afford a trip to the Caribbean, then thinking of that every time you want a cigarette is going to help a little.
I am all for rewarding yourself, and I can’t think of a better reward than a holiday.
How much would you save?
