My Kitchen Essentials

If you thought this post was going to be all about food processors and julienne peelers, then I am sorry to disappoint you. Whilst they are definitely on my list of kitchen essentials (along with my George Foreman grill and my slow cooker), this post is about the food that I have to keep in my kitchen.

I am sure I don’t need to tell you, but maybe you need reminding, that a well stocked kitchen is so important to getting healthy and losing weight. By well stocked, I don’t mean with a lifetime supply of Oreos, I mean with your favourite healthy foods that you can make delicious meals with that will stop you calling the pizza guy every night.

I thought it might be helpful if I shared with you the 20 ingredients that I can’t live without and I would definitely be taking them to a desert island with me. Having these foods in my kitchen means that I have something to grab after a workout or when I want a snack and I can easily whip up a healthy meal when inspiration to create a new recipe is lacking.

- A whole roasted chicken

- Eggs

- Bananas (some in the freezer)

- A selection of dried beans (pinto, black, cannellini)

- Milk (skimmed and almond)

- Quinoa

- Avocados

- Frozen salmon fillets

- Nut butter

- Olive oil

- Tuna

- Garlic

- Wholewheat pasta

-Brown rice

- Canned tomatoes

- Sweet potatoes

- Some kind of cheese (usually feta or mozzarella)

- A good selection of dried herbs and spices

- Spinach/Kale/Cabbage

- A selection of tea

Of course that is not ALL I have in my kitchen, but they are my essentials and things I always try keep replenished.

How about you? What are some of your kitchen essentials? Comment below :)

With roast chicken you mean that you cook it and freeze it?

  2. I am struggling with what to buy at the store, so I am going to buy everything on this list tomorrow and see how I go. Thanks for everything Dannii.

  3. are the rotiseri chicks ok or are they full of fats injected?

Wow, that is quite the spice collection. I always roast a chicken too, it makes meals really quick.

  5. About frozen bananas: do you freez them in peels? It was so cumbersome to get the peel off a frozen banana :(

Can you actually freeze bananas? Didn’t know that

Very similar list, except I’m reluctantly getting on the banana bandwagon, one limb at a time. I also keep sriracha or some other hot sauce on hand. I do not like being out of cinnamon, and I usually have some time of lean protein portioned out and ready for prep in the freezer. Also add to the list yogurt and egg whites, at least for now.

I love your little helpful tips like this. I think my problem is that I hate food shopping, but I always try to keep milk, banana and frozen berries so I can make a smoothie.

I always keep apples, pears, onions, asparagus and coffee.

  10. I am Italian, so I always keep fresh pasta, olive oil, tomatoes, olives and wine of course!

  11. Eggs for us too. Chilli sauce as well as that stuff goes on everything! It’s the only way I can get my husband to eat most vegetables haha

  12. Eggs and chicken. Yum!

  13. I always try to keep potatoes, milk, bread, eggs butter and cheese. I can always make something with those.
I love that you have tea on yours. You’re British right? ;)

  14. eggs, broccoli, chillies and oats

  15. My list would be very similar. I would add cucumber on to it thought.
