Potato Harvest

Today was an exciting day. A day I have been waiting for, for a few months. We harvested our potatoes. That is how exciting my life can be sometimes – I look forward to harvesting things we are growing. We have never grown potatoes before, but after the success of our lettuces, we were pretty confident that these would turn out well too. Although potatoes are not particularly expensive to buy, it’s nice to have fresh produce from your garden. We are going to eat something that we have grown – that never gets boring. We were going to leave them in there a little bit longer, but the plant began to take over the garden.

It was nice that they had started to flower though with these pretty purple flowers.

So, we cut off all of the tops of the plants and then split the bag open and started digging through to see if we had been successful. It was kind of like unwrapping presents at Christmas.

Success!! We have potatoes!! I am not sure what to make with them first. Perhaps a nice potato salad for a BBQ tomorrow.

One of the things I wanted to do this summer, although I forgot to put it on my summer bucket list, was learn how to play chess. I have played it in the past, but I have to have a list of the rules next to me, as I can never remember what piece can go where. So we played some chess in the garden last night.

I like chess. I do. But, it is a long game. I am a very sore loser, so I take ages deciding what my next move will be. It seems that I didn’t take long enough deciding, because I lost.

It seems that Dave was pretty happy to have won. Nothing better than a gracious winner, eh?!

We have actually been having some nice weather here in the UK today, and we have definitely been making the most of it by spending lots of time outside and getting the garden looking nice.

Dave and I have both had Friday and today off, and we have tomorrow off too. It has been a really nice and relaxing weekend of doing not much at all. Those kinds of weekends are definitely needed sometimes.
